Both of these life events can cause significant unexpected expenses if not timed carefully\, particularly if a premium subsidy is involved (i.e. from Healthcare.gov.) Our company sees clients on a regular basis who owe thousands of dollars in tax credits back to the IRS because of a poorly timed event. In one case a client who finalized a divorce one month too soon created a $19\,000 new tax burden owed to the IRS. What a devastating discovery to a client who was already experiencing enormous expenses caused by a divorce. We will also cover the new alimony law and how it affects health insurance decisions\, as well as what to look out for if a client is getting married. Along with all of this we will cover some financial planning techniques to save clients as much as $20\,000 per year if they retire prior to 65.
